The collection celebrated youth and femininity coming across as fizzy and fresh

It comes at no surprise that Giambattista Valli presented a collection which was quintessentially couture, striking all of the right notes - romance, sweetness, and the frothiness of a cappuccino’s foam (Italian breakfast style - not Starbucks take away). The roots of this season stem from the movie "Russian Ark" (2002) as well as that from the Regency era where Bonaparte influenced the fashions of the early 1800s- Empress Josephine would have adored today’s sartorial display. This was exhibited from the delicate floral designs to the puffy up sleeves, vivacious neck ruffs, french lace and ruffles upon ruffle. Oh and diamonds. Lots and lots of Buccellati fine jewellery only adding to the whimsical nature of the affair. No wonder Valli has become a favourite among the young glitterati- contemporary, sweet but always makes a precious statement (and not to mention makes any body type look fantastic).

Predominantly a creme colour palette, the collection celebrated youth and femininity coming across as fizzy and fresh - a welcome contrast to many designs which can come across as heavy and overly opulent (not quite “when the fat lady sings” but in that direction). Innocence is a word that comes to mind when looking at the pieces as a whole as well as something out of a dream or a historical-movie starring Lily James.

What Giambattista understands (and what is his completive advantage) is that he understands the needs and desires of his customer - she doesn't want a winter wardrobe - she may go to Mauritius this winter. She needs options and a pan seasonal selection which compliments a haute-wanderlust lifestyle and today that was met with the hammer on the nail. Capri pants? Check. Mini dresses? Check. Outwear? Check. Gown fit for any royal ball room? Triple Check - obviously I’m referring to the triplet of puff dresses (this has become a bit of a tradition).

Each season at Giambattista Valli we fade into this dream world with an infinite supply of macaroons, sweet smelling roses and tulle. Lots and lots of tulle. And all one can say is, what a treat!
