Let’s be honest- We all want to be the Markus Lupfer girl. The girl who is equally as quirky as she is sophisticated, has a certain air of nonchalance, looking fabulous with minimal effort - the type of girl who holds the attention when walking into a room - even if her hair is tangled up and straight from the shower. This season Lupfer catered to this girl’s (let’s call her Jean) 24 hour lifestyle, perfect for work and play and everything in between, never compromising on style or functionality - where the clothes compliment a curious, and electrifying lifestyle. While more sharp and streamlined than previous seasons, you could still the ML punctuation in the romantic floral motifs, and the careful delicacy of the hand-finished embroidery. The colors, predominantly navy and aubergine with details of dusty pink and robin egg blue, evoked the flare of a glamorous bohemian lifestyle, en trend with many other rather maximalist collections we have seen this past week in New York and London.
The eye-catchers for me were two exquisite examples of prime outwear: 1) a feisty black leather jacket sprinkled with signature ML lips which added a pinch of kooky femininity to a typically Macho-James Dean-motorcycle-dude frock and 2) a delicious, chunky deep blue corduroy cape tying together sheer glamour and a bit of 70’s rock and roll. Accessories were also on fleek as they say - specifically those radical Rocket Man bug- eyed shades (developed with Linda Farrow) and a new impressive range of studded and jewel-embellished hand bags.
I personally loved the concept of this presentation: the models in the center of the room leaning against a large concrete column, their floral motifs -organic- juxtaposing the harsh modern concrete pillar. Walking around the collection on a circular path was like taking a stroll through Jean’s day, wearing her Autumn wardrobe, ready to take the world by storm - with a smile and a pair of utterly fabulous star spangled booties.
