Only Karl can transform the everyday into a spectacle, whether it be your “average” supermarket, Parisian street, brasserie, or, in today's case, an airport complete with baggage claim, ticket check-in, and all the usual buzz (sans sticky floors, gross smells, time management chaos, unfriendly overworked staff, delays, strikes, or worker protests leaving Air France bosses mobbed and shirtless…) An airport could not be more appropriate as fashion has basically become one big traveling circus with the same bunch of colorful characters (the Vogue crowd, Godfrey Deeny, Suzy Menkes, the influenceeerrrrs…)- lets just take Chanel as an example in the past year and a half: Dallas Métiers d’Art, Dubai cruise collection, Salzburg Métiers d’Art - Seoul Cruise (and that excludes Paris HC and RTW of course). I’m not complaining of course, but in fashion, the destination has become almost equally (or more? My dissertation revolves around this…) as vital as the clothing.

Ah, the clothing and the accessories - no one can encompass a theme quite as articulate quite as the Kaiser with literal references to air travel shown in the airplane pins, the safety belt buckles, and roll on luggage hand bags and metaphorically through the metallic glimmer of jackets and dresses - a similar sparkle of when you see the sun shine on an airplane in the sky.

The airport ensembles suited every age, every style. For the young, sporty things we saw fresh Brooklyn bomber jackets and printed tracksuits ideal for long haul flights, sweatshirts and miniskirts combined[/av_textblock][/av_one_half][av_one_half min_height='' vertical_alignment='' space='' custom_margin='' margin='0px' padding='0px' border='' border_color='' radius='0px' background_color='' src='' background_position='top left' background_repeat='no-repeat'][av_textblock size='' font_color='' color='']

with cheeky baseball caps (backwards of course) and TEVA-like sandals (with SOCKS mind you *dun, dun, DUN!*)For the riper segment more inclined towards a more glamorous approach to air travel there was naturally the Chanel tweed suit, but revisited. Lagerfeld stated, “No buttons, no braid, no pockets, no golden chain, not one element of Chanel,” but the sharp tailoring was by the book and oozed the class and confidence of Coco herself.

The "must have accessories" were the oversized, full reflection sunglasses in every color. Very sci-fi, emphasizing the technological undertone to the collection and perfect for fending off unwanted flashes from the paparazzi when getting off your flight *hair flip*. Also, there were the luggage pieces- "Coco Cases" complimenting any 2.55 handbag and will surely be a frequent flyer, spotted very soon at every major airport.

A note on styling rings one word and one word only - layering. Layers of Saris, transparent dresses on sheer pants. Sweaters knotted around shoulders and tied around waists. Coats, dresses, skirts, pants all in one ensemble, reminding me of when I am flying back home from University wearing about 12 layers so I don't have to pay a ridiculous fee for my overpacked luggage. You say th-eriouthly? I say Chanel! Even the handcuff bracelets were layered, carrying fingerless gloves - handy right? *no pun intended ;) If only all air travel was so spotless, exciting, and aesthetically pleasing in full technicolor and tweed.
