John Galliano once again surpassed expectation and let his unparalleled imagination get the best of him surprising and delighting us all with wonderfully contradicting clothing. We saw masculine and the feminine. The Beautiful but ugly. Organic and artificial. Colorful and the plain. The chic the scruffy. On and on the list goes and emphasizes how complex this collection was. YK blue was carefully painted on models faces and as eye shadow, but was also a common thread sticking out hear and there on hats, shirts, jackets, and dresses. (The ultimate blue bib-front dress hanging - an oasis for any eye!) It is only Galliano who can pull off sending a potato sack dress down the runway of an Haute Couture show and for it to actually look refined and elegant and above all wearable. The shaping played a major role with different textures and abstract statue like silhouettes in emerald green proved that fashion is art. The stitching of evening gowns, the oriental silk bunched up in front, the 1940’s inspired trench coat, the poetic placement of the wheat sheaf motif - the artful elements of the collection was overwhelming and fit perfectly with the experimental vision of Maison Margiela. To cap of the collection was an almost demented looking bride covered in a crumpled duvet and tubular looking pillows. Or maybe the bride of the Michelin Man? Whatever it was- it was vintage Galliano continuing to push the Maison into a very stylishly artisanal  direction.
