Emilio Pucci: A Sky full of Stars

VELVET1.png

Peter Dundas’s last Pucci show as creative director did not go out with a bang - but with the hopeful sparkle of a starry night (- or the glistening personality of the Pucci girl!)  The collection incorporated the heart of a blissful gypsy, the goth- glamour perfected by Stevie Nicks, and the psychedelic grooviness distinguishing the Italian house throughout the decades.

ZODIAC

Zodiacs, the overarching theme for fall/ winter 2015/2016,  were printed on leisurely t-shirt dresses, mini- shorts, knee-high boots, and a most magical cape tainting the air with wonder and mystery of an unseen power. The Pucci girl who typically is a star, is now wearing them! Astrology is an interesting theme, since in a way it affects all of us, but is only worthwhile if you believe in it - kind of like fashion no?

It’s very personal: our own star signs promise to know who and how we are, based on our birthdate. So do we grow up to fulfill those predetermined expectations or is there some paranormal truth behind our cosmos? Wearing  Dundas’s maximalist patterned dresses, do we become the glamazon-free-spirited-wind-in-our-hair-disco-dancing Pucci woman or is this our real authentic selves? The mystery deepens!

I suppose it all comes down to that belief of who you are.

VELVET

As for me, I believe Peter delivered a collection which was respectful to the heritage and op-art vision of Emilio Pucci, and embraced the zeitgeist of the now so-in-trend '70's resulting in an image of the unapologetically sexy, strong, modern woman (who would never turn down an opportunity to take a spin on the dance floor).

After 6 years at Pucci, Dundas again conducted a symphony of prints and shaping and we are all excited to see his development at Roberto Cavalli.
