Lalo Cardigans

No matter the season, (or generation for that matter) knitwear is timeless, which is why it is so essential to invest in long lasting quality pieces which represent and compliment you.

In my eyes knitwear is more than just a staple in your wardrobe - it is more like a loyal friend accompanying you on your life long journey. Whether in a chalet in the slopes in St. Moritz wrapped up in front of the fireplace, crumpled into a makeshift pillow on the Red-Eye or shrugging it off the shoulder strolling through a warm summer’s night in Capri, with knitwear you find refuge, warmth and just the right amount of nostalgia. Nostalgia both in the sense of mom dressing you up for your first day of kindergarten and in the sense of Grace Kelly breezing down the Cote d’Azur with a proper creme cropped cardigan. No matter the season, (or generation for that matter) knitwear is timeless, which is why it is so essential to invest in long lasting quality pieces which represent and compliment you.

Why? Well each piece is handmade in Caucasus, Georgia made with hand painted natural yarns thus celebrating human craftsmanship in modern pieces.

While always on the lookout for said knitwear labels, I stumbled across one of this year’s Kiev Fashion Weeks big standouts named Lalo Cardigans. On first glance the aesthetic reminds one of classic Chanel thanks to innovative interpretations of contemporary tweed. On further inspection however you notice the vast portfolio of unique designs: chunky 3D floral sweaters, flamboyant mohair coats, radical shaggy jackets, elegant floor-length tweed vests (my personal favourite in lime green)- the offers are without end and each capturing the spirit of couture. As if cutting edge design wasn't enough, each piece is unlike the other. Why? Well each piece is handmade in Caucasus, Georgia made with hand painted natural yarns thus celebrating human craftsmanship in modern pieces.

I agree 100% with Internationally acclaimed editor Suzy Menkes who stated that “today's greatest fashion luxury is found in things touched by human hands” which is exactly what makes Lalo truly special. The brand established by twin sisters Lalo and Nina Dolidze in 2012 has already been adopted by global street style stars and fashion press (such as Caroline Issa) and is sure a brand to pay attention to and support. One piece I am excited about is the oversized chunky knit sweater in natural dyes which is simply oh so cozy. I already look forward to bundling up in one, cup of hot cocoa in hand  and a good read in the other. Until then, keep these kids on your radar and follow them at @lalocardigans_official.
